Advocating the idea that art is universal and ubiquitous, MobArt hopes to introduce a whole new lifestyle that inspires one to appreciate art wherever and whenever. Instead of setting up a fixed gallery space for the purpose, MobArt proactively brings art to people’s doorsteps by curating exhibitions in urban spaces like restaurants, cafes, lounges etc
MobArt Gallery has only one ambition: to make Hong Kong a world-class art city, comparable to (or even better than) London, New York and Paris. Through launching art shows around town, MobArt strives to make art an integral part of everyday life, which would in turn foster an environment that supports and nurtures young, talented local artists.
MobArt was only set up at the beginning of 2009 but had already received huge amount of positive feedback and support from artists, venue owners and friends alike. This is not hard to believe, as the business model creates a win-win situation for all: artists get their well-deserved exposure and recognition; venue owners get a fresh look and positive publicity for supporting the art scene; and MobArt is one step closer to its goal in making Hong Kong a better place for art.
Create an environment that nurtures a high level of appreciation for Art, where Art is not only pleasing to the eyes but also inspirational.
Trained in Economics and Management at Oxford University, Steph is a new breed of young entrepreneurs who returned home to pursue her dream after living overseas. While she worked in the finance industry in London, she has developed an interest in visiting art galleries and going to previews, an occasion which allowed her to meet with and talk to the artists first hand. Since her return to Hong Kong, she was surprised to find a rather closed art scene — most people found at art show openings were either artists or someone from the trade; there was none like her, simply an art lover! That's when the idea came — to make Art integral of the urban lifestyle in Hong Kong!
Graduated from UCLA, Anne had her first taste of the commercial art world when she moved to New York and worked for a year at Marlborough Gallery. Hoping to gain some perspective of the global art scene, she took up a position at one of its Europe affiliates, Marlborough Fine Art in London. During her two years of gallery experience, she specialized in print sales and has worked with contemporary masters such as Paula Rego, Bill Jacklin, Maggi Hambling, John Virtue, etc. While she was in Europe, she has travelled extensively to attend international art fairs and visit world-class museums such as Art Basel in Switzerland and the Guggenheim in Bilbao. Coming back to Asia, she hopes to apply what she has seen and learnt abroad, and help promote the hidden art talents in Hong Kong.
