Allison Malinsky

Allison Malinsky, originally a native of the New Hampshire countryside, lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.  She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in sculpture and painting, respectively, from New York University. Malinsky is inspired by her city, its history and its artists; notably painters Philip Guston and Helen Frankenthaler.  Guston's bold figurative works as well as Frankenthaler's minimal stain paintings are fuel to Malinsky's own ‘mixed period’ painting style.  She ties glamorous neo-classical interiors together with fantasy spaces and intriguing characters using bright oil color and acrylic stain sketches.  Those who view her painted spaces fall into the layered caves of her inner mind and are captivated by images of both vulnerably and intense power.  Her abstract figurative paintings of grand hotel lobbies, poured with paint and distinguished by their economy of line-work, received an emerging artist feature on Philips de Pury ART Expert.  Malinsky currently works with independent art dealer, Leslie Gerber-Seid, New York City, and MobArt Gallery in Hong Kong, she recently exhibited in Japan and New Jersey. Malinsky is a member of the collaborative Nomadic Center for Institutionless Learning (NCIL), a free school dedicated to reciprocal learning where all teachers are also students.  A colorful upbringing and a penchant for Bond films and Rock ‘n’ Roll, she is capable of anything.  Her colorful, energetic paintings reflect her vibrant, humorous disposition, and capture the essence of the artist herself.
